Project Overview

This project aims to restore the financial integrity of Homes for Children Corporation which was erroneously placed on the IRS auto-revocation list due to a failure to file taxes. The organization’s financial records have not been reconciled for the past two years because of the sudden departure of the former financial officer. As a result, the books are incomplete, and several financial discrepancies need to be addressed to file the organization’s 2022 and 2023 taxes and ensure compliance with federal regulations.

Project Objectives:
Reconcile Financial Records: Review and reconcile all financial transactions from the past two years to ensure that the organization's books accurately reflect its financial activities.

Correct Tax Filings: Prepare and file any missed or incorrect tax returns to rectify the organization's tax status with the IRS.

Identify Discrepancies: Conduct a thorough audit of the organization's financial records to identify and address any discrepancies or inconsistencies.

Implement Financial Controls: Establish robust financial controls and procedures to prevent future errors and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

We’re seeking a dedicated volunteer to help us restore the financial integrity of Homes for Children Corporation. This project is a priority for us because accurate financial records provide a clear picture of the organization's financial health, helping leadership make informed decisions, manage resources effectively, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility. Transparency in financial reporting also enhances our credibility and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, which is crucial for retaining tax-exempt status and securing funding. Ultimately, having reconciled books supports the our mission by enabling it to operate efficiently and sustainably.

This is a great investment of your time because it will provide:
-Meaningful Impact: Your work will help secure the future of this nonprofit and the community it supports.
-Skill Utilization: Apply and grow your expertise in accounting, finance, or administration while making a tangible difference.
-Fulfillment: Knowing that your efforts are contributing to the greater good offers a deep sense of purpose and satisfaction.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to invest your skills and time in a project that will make a lasting difference.

For this project, we've undertaken extensive preparations to ensure its success and long-term impact. To lay the groundwork for a smooth reconciliation process, we’ve conducted a preliminary assessment of the nonprofit’s financial situation. This involved collecting and organizing all necessary financial documents, including past tax filings, bank statements, expense reports, and other relevant records.
