Session Overview

The purpose of this consultation with the COO and me (Director of Development and Communications), is to scope a project to "supercharge" our fundraising campaigns.

We are a federally qualified health center (FQHC) on the far south side of Chicago. About 60% of our funding is from grants (mostly federal, some state, county, and city, a few private), 34% from patient revenue, and 8% from pharmacy revenue. We have only a handful of individual donors who contribute up to $4,000 annually. Beyond general operating and program needs, we have 4 current capital projects:

1) expansion of one clinic site, 2) and 3) renovating two buildings to open two new clinic sites, 4) plans to break ground on a nutrition center with a food pantry/market adjacent to our main clinic on land we already own. Fundraising goal across all 4 capital projects is about $12.5 million above what has already been raised/committed. We need advice on how to start/plan this project.

Nonprofit Overview

TCA Health provides high-quality, equitable, and accessible health services for our communities.

TCA Health was established in 1970 as a privately owned clinic located in the Altgeld Gardens/Murray Homes public housing development on the southside of Chicago. In 1991, TCA transitioned into a non-profit, primary health care center and became Community Health Center and Public Housing Primary Care grantee. TCA’s main clinic and administrative offices are adjacent to Altgeld Gardens/Murray Homes. This organizational change made our services more accessible and available to all residents in metropolitan Chicago’s far south side communities.

Today, TCA offers comprehensive care to anyone who comes through our doors. WE have a team of health experts ready to serve you, including highly trained professionals in family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, oral health and dentistry, behavioral health, clinical social work services, case management, nutritional counseling, health education, and community outreach.

Since our founding, TCA’s commitment to serving the needs of community residents has led us in new directions and expansion. Our most recent acquisition came in December 2015, when TCA Health opened its second community health center in Chicago’s Chatham community. This was a welcome addition to our school-based health center at Carver Military Academy, our Mobile Student Health Clinic, and our three Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) sites (one in Riverdale, one in Auburn Gresham, and one in South Shore).

TCA Health is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We are a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n).
