Financial Analysis

We need help evaluating and strengthening our financial management practices. We are looking for a volunteer finance professional to conduct a financial analysis and assess our current financial situation, provide recommendations and ideally provide support in establishing improved practices.

Based on your assessment of our organization's financial status, this project could also include conducting a financial forecasting exercise. We'd also benefit from recommendations for replenishing our ‘rainy day fund’ and best practices for avoiding utilizing in the future.

We predict that this finance project will take from 36-48 hours to complete. We're hoping that our pro bono partner will share three to five hours of their time each week with our team.

Journey House has been a critical part of the Pasadena and Los Angeles community for more than four decades, first as a group home for foster and probation youth, then shifting to providing case management and direct service support of youth to achieve higher education goals, well-being, stability, and self-sufficiency. After 40 years, the founding Executive Director has passed on, with a former foster youth elevating to lead the organization.

You have the opportunity to make a tremendous and lasting impact on a small organization that makes a big impact in the lives of many young people who statistically graduate high school and college at tremendously low rates (50% and 3%-5% respectively) and experience high rates of homelessness, teen pregnancy and addition (approximately 30% in each category). The organization has only 4 full-time staff, currently supporting 86 students in college and hundreds of others to find housing and access to higher education, job training, and mental health.

To prepare for this project, we have gathered our budgeting information and will share access to our financial management tools. We have existing databases, records of finances, grants, grant reports, donations, operations, etc.
