Press Release Drafting
We are seeking a skilled volunteer to assist with creating a press release for our initiative to provide 500 college application fee waivers to 500 high school seniors in our area. Specifically, we are hoping for a volunteer with experience in public relations or communications to help us craft a compelling press release that clearly conveys the importance of this project, the impact it will have on the students we serve, and how it aligns with our organization’s mission. The volunteer would assist with writing, editing, and ensuring that the press release is professionally structured and ready to be distributed to media outlets. Additionally, we would appreciate guidance on best practices for media outreach, including suggestions for crafting a media list and tips for maximizing the visibility of our release.
This project will directly support our organization’s mission by promoting an initiative that increases access to higher education for underserved students. By providing 500 college application fee waivers, we are removing a significant financial barrier that many high school seniors face when applying to college. This initiative aligns with our core goal of fostering educational equity and ensuring that all students, regardless of their financial situation, have the opportunity to pursue higher education. The press release will help raise awareness of this effort, garner support from the community, and ultimately empower more students to apply to college, taking them one step closer to achieving their academic and career goals. This increased visibility will also strengthen our organization’s reputation and further our impact in the community, making it possible for us to continue offering more resources and opportunities to students in need.
To set this project up for success, we will start by clearly defining the project’s scope, timeline, and objectives. The volunteer will receive key resources, including our organization's backgrounder, staff bios, key messaging, and mission statements, so they have a complete understanding of the initiative's goals and the impact we hope to achieve. We already have the visuals for the project, and these materials will ensure the volunteer can craft a press release that aligns with our brand, tone, and values. We will establish regular communication and check-ins to provide support, address any challenges, and ensure the project stays on track.
We will outline specific tasks and deadlines, making it easy to monitor progress and maintain accountability. Time will also be allocated for revisions and feedback, ensuring the volunteer can adjust the release as needed. A shared workspace (e.g., a project management tool or shared drive) will be set up to facilitate collaboration and document sharing, keeping everyone updated on the latest materials. With clear expectations, strong communication, and an organized approach, we can maximize the volunteer’s impact and ensure the successful completion of the press release.
