StoryMap Digital And Spatial Data Storytelling

My goal for this project is to create an interactive StoryMap based on a soon-to-be published research report on global food justice efforts. The ideal candidate will have geospatial, visual, and some copy-editing skills, ready to transform this report into an engaging StoryMap. Food First can contribute the written content and photos, and the ideal candidate will create accompanying maps and a cohesive visual layout for our organization's website.

This project directly supports our organization’s mission to advance food and racial justice by centering the voices and experiences of BIPOC and Global South leaders. Our Writeshop Program—our flagship initiative—uses participatory action research and community-based storytelling to uplift the perspectives of food justice advocates, farmers, and cooperative organizers. By creating a StoryMap, we aim to share these stories in an interactive, visually compelling format that reflects the diversity and depth of our research.

We believe knowledge production and narrative power are essential tools for challenging harmful narratives and building a more just food system. This StoryMap will not only document these powerful stories but also help us reach broader audiences through multilingual access and multimedia storytelling. Ultimately, this work will bring greater visibility to grassroots food systems work and strengthen the movement for food sovereignty and equity.

The report is under final review, with July 8th as the deadline for the final product. In other words, we already have the foundation for the StoryMaps. We also have photos that can be used in the page.

We have an IT team who can support in integrating the final StoryMaps into our website.
