Business Plan Development

We’re seeking a skilled volunteer to help us develop a practical and inspiring business plan for Surmount New York, an early-stage nonprofit with a bold vision to connect New Yorkers with essential resources that help them overcome challenges and build resilient communities.

So far, we’ve successfully run one major community initiative—our PB&J Drive, which provided food to families in need and educated over 250 young people on food insecurity. We have ambitious plans for additional programs like the Resource Fellows Program, Surmount Shares, the LIFE podcast, and the Community Empowerment Fair, but we need funding and a clear growth roadmap to bring them to life.

With your help, we hope to:
Define our nonprofit model and clarify our value proposition.
Organize our vision into short- and long-term programmatic goals.
Outline how we’ll generate and sustain funding.
Map out how we’ll scale up staffing, operations, and impact over the next 1–3 years.
Develop a compelling business plan we can share with funders and partners.

Surmount New York’s mission is to connect New Yorkers with essential resources and programs that empower them to overcome challenges, build resilience, and uplift their communities. Right now, we’re driven by vision and passion—but we need a clear plan to move forward and grow in a sustainable way.

A strong business plan will help us:
Make our case to funders, donors, and community partners.
Build internal structure and focus.
Align our team around clear goals.
Translate big ideas into real, fundable programs.

By supporting this project, you’ll be laying the foundation for a community-focused organization with the potential to impact thousands of lives across New York.

We’ve taken the critical first steps:
We’ve legally formed our organization as of June 2025.
We’ve completed our first pilot program (the PB&J Drive).
We’ve identified our long-term vision, mission, and core pillars (Awareness, Access, Advancement).
We’ve built an initial volunteer team and outlined several key program concepts.

We’re now focused on building the infrastructure to move from vision to execution. The Executive Director (who will be your main point of contact) is flexible, available, and highly motivated to collaborate and put this plan into action.
