We need a volunteer to help us get ready for an impending external audit. This volunteer will organize financial records and reconcile account schedules prepared for an upcoming audit, including clear reconciliation notes and a short summary of outstanding items.
By ensuring financial records are audit-ready, volunteers will strengthen 826 New Orleans’ fiscal transparency and stability, allowing staff to focus on delivering writing programs that empower Black and Brown youth to tell their stories and grow as writers and leaders.
Success is defined by reconciled accounts, a compiled set of audit-ready documents, and a concise list of any unresolved items for staff follow-up. Details about record access, account scope, and timing will be provided when matching with volunteers.

Organization Mission

826 New Orleans provides space and support for young people to tell their stories and become published authors. 826 New Orleans cultivates and supports the voices of young writers ages 3-18 through creative collaborations with schools and communities. We believe in the transformative power of writing. We see a future where Black and Brown young people in New Orleans have the tools to express themselves and understand their power on and off the page. Through our writing programs, students will develop their skills and gain a deeper understanding of who they are and what they think as we work towards change and liberation. We believe our youth will write us into a better, brighter, and more compassionate future. Our vision is to build an educational landscape in New Orleans where young writers thrive; they have the space, choice, time, and support they need to write confidently and in their own voice. For that reason, we work to develop a culture of literacy in New Orleans, inspiring the next generation of New Orleans’ leaders to be effective communicators, critical thinkers, and civic-minded residents.
