About the Opportunity

Koenig Childhood Cancer Foundation (KCCF) was founded in 2020 by Elana Koenig, a childhood cancer survivor, at age 11. We provide financial and emotional support to children battling cancer and their families through Family Aid, Crazy Socks Gift Bags and KCCF Camp, an international summer camp in Azerbaijan. Through our Crazy Socks Gift Making team-building events, companies help us deliver gift bags to children fighting cancer in hospitals.

We've been featured in People Magazine, on The Kelly Clarkson Show and on CBS News, NBC 4 New York and ABC7 New York, but we have no PR strategy or ongoing media relationships to build on that. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we don't know how to pitch journalists consistently, which outlets fit us best, or how to turn coverage into donations and corporate partnerships.

This focused 6-week project is best suited for a senior PR professional (7+ years) with active media relationships in New York and/or nonprofit, health or corporate social responsibility outlets. To apply, please share:
- A link to a portfolio or LinkedIn profile
- One campaign you led, with the coverage it earned
- The types of outlets and journalists in your network

Over 6 weeks, the consultant will deliver:

1. A PR strategy: key messages, target audiences (donors and corporate partners) and the best story angles.
2. A targeted media list of 20-30 outlets and journalists.
3. A press kit: boilerplate, fact sheet and founder bio.
4. 2-3 ready-to-send pitch templates.
5. A training session on how PR works: pitching, follow-up, timing and interviews.

Timeline: strategy by week 2, the media list and press kit by week 4, and pitches plus training in weeks 5-6. Introductions to relevant journalists from your network are very welcome.

Success means our team can pitch media confidently on our own, and KCCF's story reaches new donors and corporate partners, so more children and families get support. In return, you'll gain a meaningful portfolio piece and a LinkedIn recommendation.
